Fix "fatal: not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git"

The current working directory (and all parent directories) does not contain a .git metadata directory. Git cannot track changes or execute commands without an initialized repository.

Quick Fix Checklist

  1. Check current directory: pwd (macOS/Linux) or cd (Windows)
  2. Navigate to correct project folder: cd my-project
  3. If starting a new project: Initialize with git init
  4. If cloning from GitHub: Run git clone <url> instead of manual download
